Teeth Cleaning in Toronto — No Dentist Referral Needed
What's Included in Your Hygiene Visit
Every hygiene visit starts by looking at where things stand. We check your teeth and gums, ask about your daily routine, and explain what we’re seeing before any treatment begins.
From there, the visit is tailored to your oral health needs, with practical guidance to help you care for your teeth and gums between appointments. If we find something that requires care outside our scope, we’ll recommend the appropriate provider.
Assessment
Teeth, gums, and oral health check.
Scaling
Plaque and tartar removal, above and below the gumline.
Polishing
Surface stain removal and a smooth finish.
Fluoride
Topical remineralization of enamel.
Oral Cancer Screening
A check of the soft tissues in your mouth.
Hygiene Clinic vs. Dental Office
In Ontario, a dental hygiene clinic gives you a direct route to preventive care. That changes what the appointment feels like, from how it’s booked to how much of it is actually spent on your mouth.
Direct Access
Book your teeth cleaning directly, with no dentist referral required.
Focused Hygiene Care
The full visit is dedicated to your teeth, gums, and daily habits.

How Often Should You Get a Cleaning?
How often you need a professional cleaning depends on your oral health, how quickly plaque and tartar build up, your home-care routine, and other risk factors.
Some people benefit from more frequent visits, especially if they experience gum inflammation, heavy build-up, dry mouth, have orthodontic appliances, or have areas that are difficult to clean at home. Others may maintain good oral health with appointments spaced further apart.
For many patients, a cleaning every three to six months is a useful starting point. During your visit, we’ll assess your needs and recommend an interval that makes sense for your oral health.
As a rough guide:
- Every three months: When gums are bleeding and need closer attention to buildup returns quickly
- Every four months: When plaque and tartar tend to build up between visits
- Every six months: For maintaining preventive care
Pricing and Insurance
The cost of an assessment and teeth cleaning depends on your oral health needs, the amount of scaling required, and the time needed for your appointment. If additional hygiene services are recommended, we’ll explain what’s involved before we begin.
If you have dental insurance, check your plan to confirm whether dental hygiene services are covered and what your benefits include. We’ll provide the details you need for your claim and can assist you at the end of your visit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a dentist referral for teeth cleaning?
No. In Ontario, you can book directly with a registered dental hygienist, without a dentist exam or referral first.
Does teeth cleaning hurt?
Comfort is different for everyone. If your teeth or gums are sensitive, tell us before we start, and we’ll adjust the pacing and technique to suit you.
How long does a teeth cleaning take?
It depends on your oral health and how much buildup is present. Some visits are shorter, while others need more time for thorough care.
How much does teeth cleaning cost?
The cost depends on your hygiene needs, the time required, and your insurance coverage. We’ll explain what applies to your visit before we begin.
Is teeth cleaning covered by insurance?
Many dental plans include dental hygiene coverage, but every plan is different. It’s best to confirm your benefits directly with your provider.
Do I still need to see a dentist?
Yes. A dentist is still needed for diagnosis, X-rays, fillings, and other dental treatments. We provide dental hygiene care and will let you know if something should be looked at by a dentist.
